In my experience this lifestyle can only be effective for so long. People may be in denial that their lifestyle will lead to poor health and possibly even the breakdown of one's mental health, but its true- if we don't take the time we need to rest and take a few breaths/take care of ourselves- we are abusing our minds and bodies. In some cases it may be months or even years before a person has a "break down" but that almost makes this lifestyle even more dangerous. You might feel on top of the world for a while, but when your health breaks down as a result-will it be worth it? We see other's living this way and might even push ourselves harder. The sad truth is that we aren't supposed to be sick all the time and get a headache every other day.
I'm talking about taking care of ourselves NOW! There isn't supposed to be such a long list of to do's that we never get to do what we love (whatever that may be, can you even remember?) We shouldn't have to wait until retirement to live the lives we want! This might seem like an obvious conclusion, but most wouldn't admit to it.
Instead of taking advantage of our young and resilient/amazing bodies- lets lovingly take care of ourselves, because it matters right now! The food we eat, the stress that we put on ourselves, the sleep we skimp on... ultimately it will catch up to our overworked future selves at one time or another and hopefully if you haven't started already you will at least start paying attention then. Still though, most people won't think about changing their lifestyle-even when they get sick and broken down. For most people I think it takes about half their lives to start paying attention... aka The Mid-life Crisis.
The common go to- cure all is to go visit a Doctor and take "medicine" to cure the terrible symptoms you are experiencing. Nowadays that is even the treatment parents are prescribing to their children! The sad part of that is that even if you take that step to help yourself or your child, you are only helping the symptom-not the root of the problem. Call your counselor... call your family doctor and see about changing your diet or supplements. If money is an issue, then that should be even more of an inspiration to start living a healthier lifestyle. If all else fails, see a psych... but don't immediately take whatever they prescribe! Do your research! There are some meds that are much more proven and potentially less harmful for most people. Even then though, in my opinion-pharmaceuticals should never be a long term treatment.
We are trained to believe that if we aren't constantly sprinting through life, we will never get anywhere- and that is just not true. It is really hard to go against what seems to be normal these days... but you can! There are other people out there that will support you. People that are excited about their healthy lifestyles-these people care about health and nutrition -because its healthy- they will support you. Find those people that you look up to, and spend time with them! If you continue to spend time with people that are going 100MPH and not taking the time to focus on their own health then you will fall back into your old fast paced-"Live FAST-Die Young" attitude. Some people never get the chance to live a healthy balanced life- but if you have the resources to take care of yourself-DO IT! Don't wait till New Years to make a resolution- make it today.
Take Care Friends. Live happily-Slow Down.
